The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District is known for its excellent staff and outstanding student academic achievements. The history of Huntersville dates back to 1885 when the area was established as a municipality and was named for one of its founding fathers. Farmers grew cotton on large plantations and prominent schools attracted families. Soon after, textile mills brought more jobs and residents to the area. The creation of the Cowans Ford Dam in the 1950s added to the allure of the area. The construction of the Huntersville Business Park in the 1980s revived the local economy.

While Huntersville continues to grow, thanks to its location between Charlotte and Lake Norman, it has not lost its small town charm.
