Huntersville

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District is known for its excellent staff and outstanding student academic achievements. The district was recently selected as one of the first school systems in the nation to award Advanced Placement diplomas with 70 students receiving the distinction. The district also has a very high rate of National Merit Scholars, a program that honors the nation's brightest students who meet rigorous standards.

For those seeking higher education, there are several universities and colleges located in the area including campuses of University of North Carolina - one of which is located in Charlotte. North Carolina State University is located in the state capital, Raleigh, and the private liberal arts college --Davidson -- is located in the city of Davidson. There are also several community colleges located throughout the area.

The history of Huntersville dates back to 1885 when the area was established as a municipality and was named for one of its founding fathers. Farmers grew cotton on large plantations and prominent schools attracted families. Soon after, textile mills brought more jobs and residents to the area. The creation of the Cowans Ford Dam in the 1950s added to the allure of the area. The construction of the Huntersville Business Park in the 1980s revived the local economy.

While Huntersville continues to grow, thanks to its location between Charlotte and Lake Norman, it has not lost its small town charm. An abundance of recreational opportunities, an excellent school system and a strong business center are only some of the reasons residents enjoy an excellent overall quality of life.
